Atom Model

Aim: The aim is to be able to make an atom.

Equipment: Paper, Scissors, Blue tack, Strings, Beads, and Tape

Method:  First we gathered all our materials such as paper, scissors, blue tack, strings, beads, and tape.

Then we drew a big and small circle on the paper.

After that, we cut each circle carefully.

And then we drew out the dots on the paper to represent the electrons.

We then put the string through the blue tack and stick the beads on the sides of the blue tack.

Finally, we taped the strings on the rings so we can hang them.

Result:

For this experiment, I have chosen Nitrogen because I think nitrogen is really cool. Nitrogen has 7 electrons, 7 protons and 7 neutrons. In the very centre of the atom, there is a nucleus and on the first layer of the atom, there are 2 electrons because that is the maximum amount of electrons it can have. On the second layer, there are five electrons because Nitrogen only has a total of 7 electrons.

The mass number of Nitrogen is 14 and the atomic number is 7. These numbers mean the number of atomic numbers representing the number of protons found in the nucleus of a single atom of the element. The atomic number also tells you how many electrons there are in the energy levels around the nucleus. The mass number tells you the total amount of the number of particles, protons plus neutrons, found in the nucleus of an atom.

Facts about Nitrogen, nitrogen is an odourless, tasteless, and colourless element. Nitrogen also makes up half of the gas in the atmosphere.

Nitrogen has N14 and N15 as its Isotopes. Isotopes is the element containing the same amount of protons but different amounts of neutrons.

Overall this activity was fun and the atom that we made has luckily worked. I think next time we do this again I think I will try and make a bigger one because the one that I made was a bit small.

ESOL Reflection

Hi,

In ESOL we have learned how to be a good speaker. The activity that we have done was watching a video on public speaking and learning how to be a good speaker when speaking to the public or speaking in front of the class. I have learned the triple P method of how to be a good speaker the first P is preparation, when you are going to be speaking in public you have to know what you are talking about so you have to prepare. The other P is having a good posture when speaking to the class and not looking down but having a straight posture so you can look confident. The last P is to pander the audience. In some cases, I could apply this technique from what I have learned and apply the triple P when publicly speaking like when coaching I could use the strategy of the triple P.

Netball

Hi,

In P.E. I have learned how to play Netball and we have learned about the rules as well as the positions. These are the rules of the game Netball.

  1. Goal Shooter (GS) The main role of the Goal Shooter (GS) is to score, by shooting the ball into the hoop. This can only be done within the goal circle. The GS is not allowed to score a goal beyond the perimeters of the goal circle. The outcome of the game depends on the number of shots put in by the GS.
  1. Goal Attack (GA) The Goal Attack (GA) is responsible for setting up offensive plays and scoring goals. She also feeds the ball to the GS to shoot. She works very closely with the GS, and it is not uncommon to see exceptional camaraderie between the duo.
  1. Wing Attack (WA) The Wing Attack (WA) is chiefly responsible for moving the ball down from the centre third to the goal third and feeding the ball into the shooters’ hands, including both the GS and the GA. Their job is to create as many chances to score as possible.
  1. Centre (C) The Centre starts and restarts the game from the centre circle each time a goal is scored. She dictates the pace of her team’s play, creates space on the court and is depended upon for both attacking and defending. She is required to take the offensive by shifting the ball from the defensive area to the attacking side and also switches to take a defensive stance when required. She is also needed to feed the ball to the shooters in the goal circle.
  1. Wing Defence (WD) The Wing Defence (WD) is always on the defensive unless there’s a turnover and she has to bring the ball down to her attacking side. She is responsible for defending the opposing team’s players, mainly the WA, and for stopping the ball from reaching the goal circle. She is to intercept at any possible chance.
  1. Goal Defence (GD) The chief role of Goal Defence (GD) is to defend the ball from reaching the opposing shooters in a spot where they are comfortable shooting. They must always be on the lookout for chances to intercept the ball and achieve turnovers. They also keep a close look at the opposing team’s GA.
  1. Goal Keeper (GK) The Goal Keeper’s (GK) primary function is to guard the goal circle, defend the opposing shooters and prevent them from scoring goals. She is also responsible for taking throw-ins at the baseline. She can be considered as the last line of defence. The GK usually has strong camaraderie with the GD and they work together to defend the opposing shooters, intercept balls and catch rebounds.

Rules

  • A match consists of four quarters lasting 15 minutes each.
  • Each team can have a maximum of 7 players and a minimum of 5.
  • The court must be divided into 3 sections, with each player holding a specific position on the court.
  • If a player moves into a position that they shouldn’t be in, they will be deemed to be offside.
  • Players cannot hold the ball for more than three seconds.
  • Players cannot take more than 1.5 steps when in possession of the ball.
  • The ball must go through the ringed hoop for a goal to be given.

Free Writing

Freewriting is a technique in which the author writes their thoughts quickly and continuously, without worrying about form, style, or even grammar. Alongside brainstorming, freewriting is typically used early in the writing process to collect and manifest one’s thoughts. The resulting writing is usually not intended for the final draft.

Freewriting can be a liberating, albeit intimidating approach especially in creative writing, journalism, and academic writing. It means to write at your best, you first have to write at your worst!  ARTICLE

we are thinking about how our school could be imporved. One thing I would like to see is more music played on the outdoor stgae , it could be fecorded music or love performance. I think it would be fun to have a slection of music playing. We used to do it outside the old school cafe. Prefects would run it. We have a simple new system, Perhaps the prefects or student council could think about that. I would like more seating about the green area, like picnic tables.

One thing I hate is the rubbish, it’s messy and dirty. Why do people throw food around and shove  plastic packaging down seats and behind pianos. I love the way the gardens are growing, the vegetable area is wonderful. I would like to see a wildflower area as I read the Uniof Canterbury are doing.

Understanding Recounts

Hi,

In ESOl we have been learning about how to understand recounts. What we did was first read a short newspaper recount about a Satellite Falls On House and then answer a few questions about the newspaper.

Title: Satellite Falls on House

Setting: At 3 pm yesterday a satellite smashed into a jackaroo’s house near the small settlement of Wallalonga.

First event: On its return to Earth at great speed, the satellite landed on the house and destroyed it. Fortunately, there were no casualties.

Event 2: ‘The capsule was a section of a probe launched to carry out scientific experiments in space. It accidentally landed on the building in New South Wales after an 18-day mission’ the satellite controllers said.

Event 3:’ A giant parachute with a conical black “ top” was seen falling from the sky and landed through the roof of my house just as I stepped said. ‘The roof was completely destroyed, with the supporting pillars knocked to the ground’, he added.

Event 4: The capsule was undamaged, however, and was hauled away after being inspected by experts.

Event 5: The controllers from Canberra did not give a reason for the accident and attempted to play down the significance of the crash-landing. ‘The returning capsule only went through the roof and no-one was injured or died’, they said.

Event 6:’The landing technology of Australia’s satellites is very advanced and the precision of the landing point is among the best in the world. Members of the public need not worry about this’, the experts stated.

Ending: The man whose house was destroyed has asked for a new house.

RID Strategy

Hi,

In ESOL we have learned about how to improve our writing and we used a slide show called RID. RID means Replace, Insert and Delete.

Before

I liked this short story called ON THE SIDEWALK BLEEDING I like it because it was interesting at the beginning of the passage and it gets intense halfway through the story. The book was about a boy walking down the sidewalk of an alley and bleeding at the same time not thinking he was gonna die.

After

I enjoyed the short story called ‘ON THE SIDEWALK BLEEDING’ by Evan Hunter. The first few sentences captured my attention as it talks about a sixteen-year-old male who had been stabbed 10 minutes ago just below his rib cage and bleeding in the rain.

P.E

Hi,

In P.E. we have been learning about different kinds of muscles, bones, and what happens to the body immediately after exercising.

5 things that happens immediate responses to exercise

  1. Heart rate increases: Heart rate increases as you do some running or if you sprint really fast and your heartbeat would be pumping really fast.
  2. Blood Pressure increases: Blood pressure increases as you move around your body parts such as walking.
  3. Body heat increases/Temperature: Body temperature increase because it could your body energy production and gives off heat.
  4. Tidal volume increase: Tidal volume increases giving the lungs to absorb oxygen into the blood.
  5. Cardiac output increases: Cardiac output increases, Heart pumps blood which carries oxygen to the working muscles to create energy.

5 Muscles

  1. Hamstring
  2. Triceps
  3. Biceps
  4. Tibia
  5. Tarsils

5 Bones

  1. Spinal cord
  2. Ribs

Manny Pacquiao News Article Reflection

Hi,

In ESOL we did some reading and I read an article about Manny Pacquaio returning to the ring, after reading the news article we had to reflect on what we have learned and answer a few questions.

What did you learn that you didn’t know before?

What I have learned from this news article was that in boxing you have to take a drug test that is what they did to Connor, he got 2 positive results on the test and they think that he would be alright to go to the match.

How can you use this information in other ways?

Athletes who use some drugs to cheat/enhance their performance can get disqualified from their sport. That is why in sports events such as boxing long before that match begins like a few months ahead before they begin playing they test the players with a drug test kit, to see if they use any drugs.

What would you like to find out more next time?

I would like to find out more about boxing such as the rules how long it takes for a round to finish, how you get points in boxing and how old you need to be before retiring from boxing. I also would like to find out more about the players like Manny Pacquiao how old was he when he started boxing and when did he become a professional boxer?

Reflection

Hi,

In ESOL I have been reading an article called American as Apple Pie, it was about a man called Thiebaud who was an excellent painter in his time.

What I have learned from reading the article about American as Apple Pie is in painting there are lots of ways to paint. Like the fundamentals of composition and different kinds of forms of painting such as perspective paintings.

I think I can use this information to be able to draw some amazing drawings. Firstly I have to learn the basics, like learning how to draw some perspective drawings. Also learning how the fundamentals of paintings works, such as the composition and the arrangement of an object.

I would like to find out more next time is what are the different types of drawings are called. The perspective drawing, it is called perspective drawing because it is drawn in a perspective way.

Wayne Thiebaud wears glasses and smirks.
